Cradle of Aviation Museum

Science Museum · Garden City, New York

An air and space museum on the edge of the former Mitchel Field in Garden City, on the Hempstead Plains — the flat treeless grassland from which Charles Lindbergh took off for Paris in 1927 and where more than seventy aircraft manufacturers once operated. It holds a REAL APOLLO LUNAR MODULE, LM-13, built at Grumman in Bethpage a few miles away and never flown because the Apollo programme was cancelled.
