Cranberry Glades Botanical Area

Nature Preserve · Hillsboro, West Virginia

Around 750 acres of sphagnum bog at 3,400 feet in the Monongahela National Forest, among the southernmost bogs of their kind in North America and a relict of the last glaciation — the plants growing here belong several hundred miles further north. A half-mile boardwalk loops out over the bog past carnivorous pitcher plants and sundews, and it is fully accessible, free and takes under an hour.
