Croatan National Forest
National Forest · Asheville, North Carolina
The only true coastal national forest in the eastern United States - a hundred and sixty thousand acres of pocosin, longleaf pine, saltwater estuary and pine savanna between New Bern and the sea, established in 1936. It holds four carnivorous plant species including the Venus flytrap, which grows wild in a small area of the Carolinas and essentially nowhere else on earth.
