Crowders Mountain State Park
Subnational Park · Kings Mountain, North Carolina
A pair of quartzite ridges - Crowders Mountain and The Pinnacle - standing about eight hundred feet above the Piedmont on the outskirts of Gastonia, twenty-five miles west of Charlotte. It exists because a mining company wanted the kyanite in the rock and local residents fought them off in the 1970s. The cliffs are the main rock-climbing crag for the Charlotte metro, and the trails are the default weekend hike for the whole region, which is both its virtue and its problem.
522 Park Office Lane, Kings Mountain, North Carolina, 28086, United States
