Crystal Cove State Park
State Park · Laguna Beach, California
Crystal Cove State Park holds one of the last stretches of undeveloped coast in Orange County, between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach. Roughly three miles of sandy coves, rocky points and tide pools sit below Pacific Coast Highway, and thousands of acres of chaparral and canyon climb into the hills behind. The Historic District is a small beach colony of 1930s and 1940s cottages, kept as a state landmark; some cottages can be rented overnight and the Beachcomber Cafe and a shake shack serve food there - confirm current operators and hours. Moro Canyon offers hiking and mountain biking with ocean views. It suits beach days, tide-pooling, easy coastal walks and half-day hikes. It is also busy: the parking fee is charged per car, lots fill on warm weekends, and the water is cold with rip currents. Marine protected area rules apply, so look at the sea life but never take or move anything. Confirm fees, tide times and cottage booking rules before you go.

The park is generally open daily from about 6 AM until sunset, with the beach lots and the inland Moro Canyon trailheads on the same daylight schedule - confirm the exact times with California State Parks. Cafe, shake shack and visitor center hours inside the Historic District are separate, vary by season and day, and have changed with staffing and cottage operations, so check them before you plan a meal. Parking lots can close when full, often by mid-morning on summer and holiday weekends. Heavy winter storms, bluff slides and high surf have closed beach sections and trails for days at a time, and the backcountry may close on red-flag fire days.
