Crystal Grottoes Caverns

Show Cave · Boonsboro, Maryland

Maryland's only commercial show cave, found by accident in 1920 when a quarry crew blasting limestone for road stone broke into a chamber, and open to the public since 1922. It is small, family-run and almost entirely unmodernised — a guide, a torch and about forty minutes underground. The owners claim it has more formations per square foot than any known cave, which is the sort of thing every show cave says, except that here the density genuinely is startling.

19821 Shepherdstown Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland, 21713, United States

⚠ GUIDED TOURS ONLY, roughly 40 minutes, with no self-guided option; tours run on demand rather than a fixed timetable. RING BEFORE TRAVELLING between November and March. Modest admission paid at the door; cash is the safe assumption. A constant 54°F underground year round.
