The largest uninhabited parcel of land between Key Largo and Big Pine Key, protecting one of the last substantial stands of tropical hardwood hammock and mangrove in the middle Keys. It is also one of the best raptor migration sites in North America — the autumn hawk watch here counts tens of thousands of birds funnelling down the island chain.
