Da Nang and My Khe Beach

The Central Coast'S Modern City And Its Long Beach, With A Dragon Bridge That Breathes Fire On Weekend Nights, The Marble Mountains Caves, The Lady Buddha At Son Tra And The Cham Museum. Used By Many Visitors As A Base For Hoi An And Hue. Typhoon Season Runs From September To November · Da Nang, Da Nang

Da Nang is the central coast's modern city, a clean, wide-avenued port of about a million people on the Han River, and My Khe is its long, golden beach of roughly 10 km, lined with hotels, seafood restaurants and surf shacks. The city has little old-town charm but a lot to do: the Dragon Bridge breathes fire and water on weekend nights, the Marble Mountains hold caves and pagodas in limestone hills, the Lady Buddha at Son Tra stands 67 m tall above the sea, and the Cham Museum keeps the world's finest Cham sculpture. Hoi An is about 30 km south and Hue about 100 km north over the Hai Van Pass, which has its own entry. Many visitors treat Da Nang as a base and sleep here, since hotels are cheaper and more varied than in Hoi An. Be honest about the beach: it is good for a walk and a swim in calm months, but it is urban, with crowds at weekends. Typhoon season from September to November brings big surf, red flags, flooded roads and cancelled plans, so keep a spare day in the schedule.
