Dade Battlefield Historic State Park

Florida State Park · Bushnell, Florida

Where 108 US Army soldiers marching from Fort Brooke to Fort King were ambushed by Seminole warriors on 28 December 1835, and all but three were killed — the action that began the Second Seminole War, the longest and most expensive of the Indian wars. The pine flatwoods around the site have been kept close to their 1835 condition, which is itself unusual.
