Dakota Zoo

Zoo · Bismarck, North Dakota

A zoo on the bank of the Missouri in Bismarck, opened in 1961 on land the Christianson family gave along with their private animal collection, and now holding several hundred animals across about ninety acres of cottonwood bottomland. The collection leans deliberately toward species that can live outdoors through a North Dakota winter - bison, elk, wolves, bears, big cats, moose - which makes it a genuinely different zoo from one built in a warmer state.

602 Riverside Park Road, Bismarck, North Dakota, 58504, United States

⚠ SEASONAL - the zoo runs a main season from roughly spring to autumn, generally 10 AM to early evening in summer with shorter shoulder-season hours, and winter opening is limited or absent. Check before travelling. A modest admission is charged and parking is free. Individual animals go off exhibit in extreme heat or cold. The train ride carries a small additional charge and runs in season.
