Daly Mansion
Manor · Hamilton, Montana
A twenty-four-thousand-square-foot Georgian Revival house in the Bitterroot Valley, built as a summer place by Marcus Daly, the Irish immigrant who became one of Butte's Copper Kings and owned a great deal of Montana. Fifty-six rooms, twenty-four bedrooms, fifteen bathrooms, seven Italian marble fireplaces. His widow Margaret used it every summer until she died in 1941, and then it was locked, shuttered and left alone for forty-six years. When it opened as a museum in 1987 it still had much of the family's furniture in it.

Seasonal. The house is open on guided tours only, to a posted daily schedule, generally from around mid-April to mid-October; in winter it is closed or open by appointment apart from a December Christmas programme, which is ticketed separately and sells out. The fifty acres of grounds are open more widely than the house and are free or nominally charged. The mansion hosts weddings and private events which can close parts of the site at short notice.
