Dana-Thomas House

Historic House · Springfield, Illinois

The most complete and best-preserved of Frank Lloyd Wright's early Prairie houses, built in Springfield between 1902 and 1904 for the heiress and socialite Susan Lawrence Dana, who gave him an effectively unlimited budget and a free hand. It has thirty-five rooms, more than a hundred pieces of original Wright-designed furniture, some two hundred and fifty art glass windows and doors and two hundred light fittings — nearly all of them still in the building. Illinois owns it and admission is free.
