Daniel Boone Homestead
Historic House · Birdsboro, Pennsylvania
Five hundred and seventy-nine acres of Berks County farmland where Daniel Boone was born in 1734 and lived until his family moved south when he was about sixteen. The honest position, which the site takes, is that very little of what stands here is his: the Boone log house survives mainly as the cellar and foundation beneath a later stone house built by the families who followed. What the place is genuinely good at is eighteenth-century rural Pennsylvania — a blacksmith shop, a bank barn, a sawmill and a relocated log house, in a landscape that has not been built over.
