Danyang
Danyang Eight Scenic Views Along The Namhan River · Danyang, North Chungcheong
Danyang is a small county town in the mountains of North Chungcheong, set in a deep bend of the Namhan river between limestone cliffs, and one of South Korea's favourite places for river scenery and outdoor weekends. Its best-known sight is Dodamsambong, three rock peaks rising from the river with a small pavilion on the middle one, the first of the Danyang Eight Scenic Views; a short path above it leads to Seongmun, a natural stone arch framing the river. The hills around town are among the country's most popular places for tandem paragliding, with operators flying from launch sites on Yangbangsan and Duaksan down to the riverbank. Limestone caves run under the hills, the best known being Gosu cave, with walkways and stairs through its chambers. The Mancheonha Skywalk juts over the river on glass-floored arms, with an alpine coaster and zipwire beside it, and in a narrow valley to the north-east Guinsa, headquarters of the Cheontae Buddhist order, climbs the slopes in tiers. Sobaeksan rises behind, and Danyang is reached by the Jungang line from Cheongnyangni in Seoul.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: Dodamsambong's riverside park is open all day and lit in the evening. Gosu cave opens daily from about 9 am to 5 or 6 pm, with last entry roughly an hour before closing. The Mancheonha Skywalk and its rides run roughly 9 am to 6 pm, with a regular weekly closing day, often Monday, and last shuttles and ride tickets before closing. Paragliding operators fly from morning until late afternoon, weather permitting. Guinsa is open daily. The traps that ruin a day are a wind cancellation on the only day you booked to fly, the Skywalk's closing day, missing the last shuttle down, and infrequent trains back to Seoul. Confirm current times before relying on them.
