Darul Aman Palace

Palace · Kabul, Kabul

King Amanullah's neoclassical reform-era palace on a hill at the end of Kabul's grand Darulaman axis, built in the 1920s by European-trained engineers as the centrepiece of a modern capital that never came. Shelled into a famous ruin during the civil war, it was rebuilt by Afghan engineers between 2016 and 2019 for the independence centenary and now stands restored, used by the authorities for official events. Public access to the interior has varied since 2021 and could not be verified; the exterior and hilltop remain the point for most visitors.

The hilltop and exterior are generally viewable in daylight subject to security posture; interior hours, when public access operates, are unpublished and variable. Verify locally the same day.
