Denali State Park
Alaska State Park · Trapper Creek, Alaska
A state park of about 325,000 acres along the Parks Highway between the Talkeetna Mountains and the Alaska Range, next door to Denali National Park and home to some of the best roadside views of Denali's south face. Pull-offs such as Denali View South and Denali View North, and the K'esugi Ken Campground, look across the Chulitna River to the mountain on clear days. The Kesugi Ridge Trail follows an alpine ridge for about 27 miles above the highway, and a newer trail climbs about 3 miles and 1,100 feet from K'esugi Ken up Curry Ridge. Byers Lake has a loop trail, a boat concession, cabins and the Alaska Veterans Memorial. K'esugi Ken offers 32 RV sites with power, 10 walk-in tent sites and an interpretive centre. In mid-May 2026 some campgrounds were still closed for the season, and reservations beyond 31 December 2026 could not be made until 1 October.
