Desert Botanical Garden

Nonprofit Botanical Garden In Papago Park · Phoenix, Arizona

A botanical garden in Papago Park, among the red buttes between Phoenix and Tempe, opened in 1939 and devoted to desert plants from Arizona and arid lands around the world. Its trails wind past towering saguaros, barrel and cholla cacti, agaves, aloes and wildflower beds, with themed loops on Sonoran Desert ecology and on how people have used desert plants for food, fibre and shelter. Most of the garden is outdoors, with shade structures along the paths. In spring a butterfly pavilion opens, and in December thousands of luminarias light the paths for Las Noches de las Luminarias. In 2026 adult admission ran from $16.95 in summer to $39.95 from October to May, parking was free, and entry was free on the second Tuesday of each month. Summer heat is severe, so come early.
