DeSoto State Park

Alabama State Park · Fort Payne, Alabama

A Civilian Conservation Corps park on top of Lookout Mountain, built in the 1930s in stone and timber and still using the buildings the Corps put up. It sits on the West Fork of the Little River immediately beside Little River Canyon National Preserve and supplies the lodge, cabins, chalets and campground the preserve does not have. DeSoto Falls, a hundred feet into a plunge pool a few miles north, is the piece everyone photographs, and the park's wildflower and rhododendron display in May is the best in north Alabama.

7104 DeSoto Parkway NE, Fort Payne, Alabama, 35967, United States

Open daily year round for a small day-use fee, generally 7 AM to sunset for day visitors, with the lodge, cabins, chalets and campground open to registered guests around the clock. DeSoto Falls is a few miles north on its own access road with its own car park.
