Devils Fork State Park

State Park · Salem, South Carolina

The only public access point to Lake Jocassee, a 7,500-acre reservoir held between the Blue Ridge escarpment and the Jocassee Gorges and filled with cold, startlingly clear mountain water. Every waterfall on the lake is reachable by boat and by no other means, which is the single fact that decides how a day here goes. For two or three weeks from mid-March the woods along one short trail carry Oconee bells, a flower that grows in only a handful of places on earth.
