Dia Beacon

Art Museum · Beacon, New York

A former Nabisco box-printing factory of 1929 on the Hudson at Beacon, converted in 2003 into 240,000 square feet of gallery lit almost entirely by north-facing sawtooth skylights. It holds the Dia Art Foundation's collection from the 1960s onward — Richard Serra, Donald Judd, Agnes Martin, Louise Bourgeois, Dan Flavin — at a scale no city museum can offer, and the daylight means the hours follow the sun rather than the clock.

3 Beekman Street, Beacon, New York, 12508, United States

⚠ HOURS FOLLOW THE DAYLIGHT AND THE MUSEUM CLOSES SEVERAL WEEKDAYS. Reported open Friday to Monday in winter and more days in summer, with markedly earlier winter closing because the galleries are lit by skylights. The pattern shifts seasonally and I COULD NOT VERIFY THE CURRENT SCHEDULE — check diaart.org before travelling. Metro-North Hudson Line from Grand Central, roughly 90 minutes, station a ten-minute walk.
