Discovery Park
City Park · Seattle, Washington
Seattle's largest park, 534 acres on Magnolia Bluff where Fort Lawton stood until the army left, with nearly twelve miles of trails through meadow, forest and sea cliff. The Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center sits within it, on land occupied and reclaimed by Native activists in 1970. From the bluff the view runs across Puget Sound to the Olympics, and a working 1881 lighthouse stands at West Point below.
3801 Discovery Park Boulevard, Seattle, Washington, 98199, United States
Open daily 4 AM to 11:30 PM, free. The visitor centre keeps shorter hours and is closed some days. THE ROAD DOWN TO WEST POINT AND THE LIGHTHOUSE IS CLOSED TO GENERAL TRAFFIC - the beach is reached on foot, about a mile and a half each way with a steep return, or by a limited permit shuttle for visitors with mobility needs.
