Discovery Place Science

Science Museum · Charlotte, North Carolina

Charlotte's science museum, opened in 1981 in the middle of uptown, holding a rainforest conservatory, an aquarium, a large hands-on physics and engineering floor and the largest IMAX Dome theatre in the Carolinas. It is compact, urban and vertical - the opposite of Durham's sprawling outdoor site - which makes it the reliable rainy-day answer in a city that does not have many.

301 North Tryon Street, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28202, United States

Generally 9 AM to 4 PM weekdays and later at weekends, with seasonal variation and some Monday closures; closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Ticketed, with the IMAX Dome theatre generally a separate or add-on charge. It is in uptown Charlotte, so PARKING IS IN DECKS and is a real cost on top of admission.
