Djurdjura National Park
Algeria'S Second National Park (1983) And A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve (1997), Covering The Djurdjura Massif In Kabylie; Lalla Khedidja, At About 2,308 Metres, Is One Of The Highest Peaks In The Tell Atlas, And Tikjda Runs The Country'S Best Known Ski Station Alongside Summer Hiking · Tikjda, Bouira
Djurdjura became Algeria's second national park in 1983 and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1997, covering a limestone massif in Kabylie that rises to Lalla Khedidja at about 2,308 metres, among the highest peaks in the Tell Atlas. The Tikjda plateau is where almost every visit centres: Algeria's best-known ski station in winter, when snow reliably covers the upper slopes, and a hiking and picnic destination in summer, when the same ground turns to cedar forest, alpine meadow and bare limestone ridgeline. Trails fan out from Tikjda toward Lalla Khedidja's summit and across several lower ridges, with views that on a clear day reach toward both the Mediterranean coast and the high plains to the south. The park also protects a resident population of Barbary macaques and a scatter of karst caves in the limestone. This is squarely a destination planned around the landscape rather than any single building or ruin.

No gate and no fixed hours for the park itself, which is open to hikers through daylight year round, though winter access to the higher trails depends entirely on snow and weather conditions. The Tikjda ski station runs its lifts only during the snow season, which varies year to year with snowfall and has been known to start late or close early; confirm current operating status before planning a ski trip specifically. Mountain refuges and lodges at Tikjda keep their own booking arrangements. The approach road from Bouira or Tizi Ouzou climbs steadily and can be affected by snow or ice in winter, when a vehicle suited to the conditions matters.
