Djurs Sommerland is a big summer amusement park near Nimtofte on the Djursland peninsula in East Jutland, roughly 45-60 minutes north-east of Aarhus. Opened in 1981 as a modest family park, it has grown into what is usually called Denmark's largest amusement park by area, spread over fields and woodland with themed zones, a large water park and one of the biggest children's areas in Scandinavia. It is a pay-one-price park: the ticket covers the rides and the water park, so families stay from opening to closing. Thrill seekers come for the big coasters, above all Piraten, a tall, fast steel coaster opened in 2008, and Juvelen, a launched family coaster opened in 2017, alongside a wooden coaster and a changing list of newer rides - confirm what runs this season. Danish families come for the gentle rides, playgrounds and slides. The honest caveat: it is strictly seasonal, roughly May to September with some autumn dates, it is far from Copenhagen and awkward without a car, and in the July school holidays queues for the big rides can reach an hour or more.

Hours are longest in July, and the water park and some rides may close earlier than the park - check the current season calendar before travelling. By car it is roughly 45-60 minutes from Aarhus and 3-3.5 hours from Copenhagen via the Great Belt Bridge (toll), or via the Sjaellands Odde ferry to Aarhus or Ebeltoft. By public transport, train to Aarhus or Randers, then a regional bus towards Grenaa or a summer park bus - confirm routes. Buy tickets online ahead; no timed booking is usually needed.
