Dollywood
Theme Park · Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
A theme park in the foothills of the Smokies that began in 1961 as a small railroad attraction and became Dollywood in 1986, when Dolly Parton bought into it and put her name on the gate. It is built around a working craft village — glassblowers, blacksmiths, a wood carver — a coal-fired steam train that predates the park, and a coaster collection that has repeatedly been ranked among the best in the world. Its Christmas season, with several million lights, is the busiest time of its year.
