Door County

Resort Area · Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin

A seventy-mile peninsula between Green Bay and Lake Michigan with roughly 300 miles of shoreline — more than any other county in the United States — and a permanent population of about 30,000 that multiplies several times over in summer. It has been the Upper Midwest's summer coast for over a century, and the string of villages up its western shore, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Ephraim and Sister Bay, are the reason. The strait at its northern tip is called Death's Door, which is where the county got its name.

Highway 42 and Highway 57, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, 54235, United States

A year-round county but a seasonal destination. Most inns, restaurants, ferries and attractions run roughly May to late October, with a reduced winter offering and many closures from November to April. The state parks and Cave Point are open year-round.
