Duck Mountain Provincial Park is a large highland park in western Manitoba, set on the Manitoba Escarpment where the land rises above the prairie near the Saskatchewan border, about 60 km west of Dauphin (confirm the route). Forest of aspen, spruce and birch covers rolling hills that hold deep, clear lakes, with Madge Lake the best known for its beaches, campground and cottages. Baldy Mountain, the highest point in Manitoba at roughly 830 metres, lies in the uplands, and the climate is cooler and wetter than the plains below. The park is a four-season holiday area, with swimming, boating and fishing in summer, hiking and cycling trails, colourful autumn forest, and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in winter. Elk, moose, black bears and many birds live in the woods. A vehicle park pass is needed (confirm the price), and campsites should be booked well ahead for July and August weekends.

The park is open all year, but most services run from about mid May to early September. The campground, park office, beach facilities and some trails keep seasonal hours, and several roads and trails are closed or unplowed in winter, so confirm dates before driving up. A vehicle park pass is needed, with daily and annual options, and the office or an entry point may be unstaffed outside the main season. Walking the trails is free once the pass is bought. In winter some trails are groomed for cross-country skiing and snowmobiles, but grooming depends on snow and volunteers, so call the park office first.
