Dunvegan Provincial Park and Historic Site lies in the Peace River valley, about 25 km south-west of Fairview and roughly 80 to 90 km north-east of Grande Prairie, where Highway 2 crosses the river on a suspension bridge. The site marks a fur-trade post founded in 1805 by the North West Company and later run by the Hudson Bay Company, and a Catholic mission built in the 1880s. Standing buildings include the Factor house, a church, a rectory and a small interpretive centre, set on a quiet river flat among cottonwoods (confirm which are open and when). Beaver and Cree peoples used the same terrace long before the traders. Beyond the old buildings the park offers a campground, a picnic area and trails along the river and up the valley wall. The Dunvegan Bridge, opened in 1960, was the last suspension bridge of its kind in Alberta (confirm), and the old ferry crossing sits just downstream. It is among the best preserved fur-trade sites in the north.
