Ecola State Park
Subnational Park · Cannon Beach, Oregon
A headland park on the Oregon coast three miles north of Cannon Beach, giving the view that appears on a great deal of the state's tourism material - Haystack Rock and nine miles of beach to the south, and Tillamook Rock Lighthouse standing on its sea stack a mile offshore. Lewis and Clark's party walked over this headland in 1806 to buy whale blubber from the Tillamook, and the park takes its name from the Chinook Jargon word for whale.
Ecola State Park Road, Cannon Beach, Oregon, 97110, United States
Open daily, dawn to dusk, year round, with an Oregon State Parks day-use parking fee or annual pass. There is no camping apart from a small hiker-biker site on the Clatsop Loop. ⚠ THE ACCESS ROAD IS NARROW, STEEP AND LANDSLIDE-PRONE and both the road and sections of the park have closed for extended periods for slope repair - check the park status before driving up. Summer mornings are frequently fogged in and the headland view disappears; afternoons are usually clearer.
