Edgar Allan Poe House and Grave

National Historic Landmark · Baltimore, Maryland

A very small brick house on Amity Street where Poe lived from about 1833 to 1835 with his aunt Maria Clemm and his young cousin Virginia, whom he later married, and a grave a mile away at Westminster Hall where he was buried in 1849 after being found delirious in the street in somebody else's clothes. Nobody has ever established what happened to him in those last days. Baltimore has claimed him ever since, put him on its football team and left roses on the grave for decades.

203 North Amity Street, Baltimore, Maryland, 21223, United States

⚠ THE HOUSE KEEPS VERY LIMITED AND SEASONAL HOURS — generally a few days a week, with a small admission, run by a small organisation. VERIFY BEFORE TRAVELLING. THE GRAVE AND WESTMINSTER BURYING GROUND ARE A SEPARATE SITE about a mile away at Fayette and Greene, free, keeping their own daylight hours; catacomb tours run on a limited schedule and are booked ahead. Commemorations take place around 19 January.
