Eisenhower National Historic Site
National Historic Site · Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
The farm Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower bought in 1950 beside the Gettysburg battlefield, and the only house the couple ever owned in a lifetime of army postings. Eisenhower used it as a weekend retreat through the presidency and retired to it in 1961, entertaining Khrushchev, de Gaulle and Churchill in a glassed porch that is still furnished as they left it. It is reached only by shuttle bus from the Gettysburg visitor centre, which is the fact that decides whether most people get in.
