Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art

Specialty Museum · Indianapolis, Indiana

A museum in White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis holding both Native American art and Western American art, which is an unusual pairing and makes it one of very few institutions east of the Mississippi with a comprehensive collection of either. It was founded on the collection of the Indianapolis businessman Harrison Eiteljorg and opened in 1989 in a building of Minnesota dolomite designed to evoke the pueblo architecture of the Southwest. Its contemporary Native art programme, including the Eiteljorg Contemporary Art Fellowship, is what distinguishes it from a historical collection.

500 West Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46204, United States

Open Tuesday to Sunday, generally 10:00 to 17:00, and CLOSED MONDAYS for much of the year. Closed on some major holidays. The Indian Market and Festival and Quest for the West run on separate seasonal schedules.
