Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site

Historic House · Hyde Park, New York

⚠ THE ONLY NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE DEDICATED TO A FIRST LADY. VAL-KILL was a furniture factory Eleanor Roosevelt founded in 1926 to give local farm families winter work; she converted it into her own house in 1936 and it became the only home she ever considered hers. ⚠ SHE DRAFTED PARTS OF THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS HERE, and received Kennedy, Khrushchev, Nehru and Tito in a plain cottage.

54 Val-Kill Park Road, Hyde Park, New York, 12538, United States

⚠ THE GROUNDS ARE FREE and need no ticket. ⚠ VAL-KILL COTTAGE IS GUIDED-TOUR-ONLY AND TICKETED, with tours capped — ⚠ CHECK THE SEASONAL SCHEDULE on nps.gov/elro, as winter operation has historically been reduced. ⚠ CHECK WHETHER A COMBINED TICKET COVERS VAL-KILL AND THE HOME OF FDR, two miles west and in this database — the two sites have had linked arrangements. NPS annual and America the Beautiful passes are accepted, and the Park Service runs several fee-free days a year. Free parking. ⚠ IT IS THE ONLY NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE DEDICATED TO A FIRST LADY.
