Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
Rock Formation · Fredericksburg, Texas
A vast dome of pink granite rising 425 feet out of the Hill Country scrub north of Fredericksburg — one of the largest exposed granite batholiths in the United States, and part of a billion-year-old uplift with seven separate peaks. The Tonkawa heard the rock creak as it cooled at night and thought it was haunted, which is where the name comes from. It is also an International Dark Sky Park.
