Englishman River Falls Provincial Park

A Forest And River Park With An Upper And Lower Waterfall, A Suspension Bridge Over A Gorge, Swimming Holes, Old Growth Douglas Fir And A Campground. A Short Drive From Parksville And The Beaches, Popular For River Swimming In Summer · Parksville, British Columbia

Englishman River Falls Provincial Park lies on Englishman River Road about 13 km south-west of Parksville on Vancouver Island, in the foothills below Mount Arrowsmith (confirm distance). The Englishman River races through a forested gorge here, dropping over an upper and a lower waterfall into deep green pools, with a suspension bridge across the canyon, loop trails along both banks and viewing platforms close to the spray. Old Douglas fir, cedar and hemlock tower over the walk, and a campground tucked among the trees makes this a quieter, cooler base than the beach parks on the coast. In summer the river pools draw swimmers, in autumn salmon return upstream, and in winter the canyon fills with mist and sound. It is a short drive from Parksville, Coombs and Qualicum Beach, and a good half-day trip or camping base. Booking is through BC Parks Discover Camping (confirm all fees, dates and rules).

Englishman River Falls Provincial Park, on Englishman River Road about 13 km south-west of Parksville on Vancouver Island; coordinates approximate, Parksville, British Columbia, Canada

Englishman River Falls is open every day for day use from about dawn to dusk, with the campground running from spring to early autumn and a limited winter operation in some years (confirm). Services are basic, with pit toilets and water taps, and the road in is a narrow rural road with no staffed gate off-season, so confirm dates with BC Parks before travelling. The river is loudest after heavy rain and spring melt, and the swimming pools are best from July to early September, when flows fall and the water warms.
