Eno River State Park
Subnational Park · Durham, North Carolina
Four thousand three hundred acres along fourteen miles of the Eno River on the northern edge of Durham, saved from a proposed reservoir in the 1960s by a citizens' campaign that became one of the most successful conservation fights in the state. It is the Triangle's hiking ground - twenty-four miles of trail through river bluffs and old mill sites, with five access areas, and it is free.
6101 Cole Mill Road, Durham, North Carolina, 27705, United States
FREE and open daily, with monthly hours from roughly 8 AM to 6 PM in winter and later in summer. Closed Christmas Day. ⚠ THERE ARE FIVE SEPARATE ACCESS AREAS spread along the river and THEY ARE NOT CONNECTED BY ROAD IN AN OBVIOUS WAY - pick your access before you set out, because arriving at the wrong one can mean a twenty-minute drive to the trail you wanted.
