Estero Bluffs State Park
State Park · Cayucos, California
Estero Bluffs State Park is a long, narrow strip of coastal grassland on the San Luis Obispo County coast, just north of Cayucos beside Highway 1. It is an undeveloped day-use park: no gate, no visitor centre, no restrooms (confirm), only dirt pullouts on the ocean side of the highway and a flat trail along the bluff edge (confirm). It has about four miles of rugged shore with sea stacks, tide pools, small pocket beaches and the rusting wreck of a fishing boat on the rocks - confirm the wreck is still there, since the sea breaks such things up. The ground is open prairie with no trees, so wind and fog are the norm, and spring brings wildflowers. Harbor seals and shorebirds use the rocks. Morro Strand State Beach and Morro Bay State Park lie a short drive south. It suits photographers, walkers and birders who want a quiet hour or two, and it disappoints anyone expecting a swimming beach, shade or services.

Estero Bluffs is open from sunrise to sunset, and California State Parks day-use parks of this kind commonly follow that pattern - confirm the posted hours at the pullout you use. There is no staffed entrance and no gate, so access is simply a matter of daylight and conditions. Fog can sit on this stretch of coast for most of a summer morning, strong afternoon wind is common, and winter storms bring big surf and slick bluff edges. Check the tide table before going down to the rocks, and expect no cell help if you are in trouble.
