Eudora Welty House and Garden

National Historic Landmark · Jackson, Mississippi

The Tudor Revival house in the Belhaven neighbourhood of Jackson that Eudora Welty moved into at sixteen in 1925 and lived in until she died in 2001 — seventy-six years in one house, and she wrote nearly everything in it. It is among the most intact writers' houses in the United States: her books are on the shelves in the order she left them, her typewriter is by the bedroom window, and the garden her mother laid out has been restored to how the two of them kept it. Tours are by reservation, in small groups, and that is not a formality.
