Eugene T. Mahoney State Park
Nebraska State Park (Nebraska Game And Parks Commission); Often Described As The State'S Most Visited Park · Ashland, Nebraska
Eugene T. Mahoney State Park sits on wooded bluffs above the Platte River at Interstate 80 exit 426, between Omaha and Lincoln, and is often described as Nebraska's most visited state park. Opened in 1991 and run by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, it was built as a family resort rather than a wilderness: the Peter Kiewit Lodge has hotel rooms and a restaurant, dozens of rental cabins sit in the woods, and there is a family aquatic centre with slides, campgrounds, horse trail rides, paddleboats, mini golf and an observation tower of roughly 70 feet looking over the Platte valley. Winter brings sledding, ice skating and a holiday lights display in some years. Trails wind through oak woods and along the bluffs, but none is long or wild. Most visitors are families from Omaha and Lincoln who come for a pool day, a cabin weekend or a holiday gathering, and the park is busiest on summer weekends. A Nebraska park entry permit is required for every vehicle, and the SAC Museum and Wildlife Safari Park are minutes away.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the park is open all year, roughly from early morning to late evening for day use, with lodge and cabin guests staying overnight; the lodge restaurant keeps shorter hours out of season. The aquatic centre runs roughly from Memorial Day to mid-August or Labor Day, typically late morning to early evening. Stables, paddleboats, mini golf and the activity centre keep their own seasonal and weekend hours. The traps that ruin a day are arriving without a park entry permit, finding the pool at capacity on a hot Saturday or closed in late August, and expecting a cabin without booking months ahead. Confirm current times before relying on them.
