Everson Museum of Art

Art Museum · Syracuse, New York

⚠ THE FIRST MUSEUM I. M. PEI EVER DESIGNED — a 1968 building in downtown Syracuse of four cantilevered concrete masses around a top-lit sculpture court, ⚠ WHICH PEI HIMSELF CALLED A SCULPTURE FOR SCULPTURE. It holds one of the most important collections of AMERICAN CERAMICS anywhere, and was the first American museum to establish a video art collection.

401 Harrison Street, Syracuse, New York, 13202, United States

⚠ CLOSED MONDAYS AND TUESDAYS, historically — check everson.org before travelling. ⚠ CHECK WHETHER ADMISSION IS CURRENTLY FREE OR PAY-WHAT-YOU-WISH: the Everson's model has changed more than once and the museum has been free at points. ⚠ GO ON A BRIGHT DAY — the sculpture court is top-lit and the galleries take borrowed light from it, so the building is materially better in sunshine. ⚠ IT IS I. M. PEI'S FIRST MUSEUM, completed 1968, and the building is as much the reason to come as the collection. Parking in downtown Syracuse is generally charged. ⚠ HOURS AND PRICES NOT VERIFIED FOR THIS FILE.
