Fair Oaks Farms
Working Farm · Fair Oaks, Indiana
A very large working dairy and agritourism operation on Interstate 65 in Jasper County, roughly midway between Chicago and Indianapolis, built to let the public watch modern industrial-scale agriculture at work rather than a heritage version of it. Visitors ride buses through working dairy barns, watch calves being born in a birthing barn, and see the anaerobic digesters that turn manure into the fuel for the operation's own tanker fleet. It is one of the largest agritourism operations in the United States and its purpose is explicitly to argue for modern farming to a sceptical public.
