Fairhope

Heritage District · Fairhope, Alabama

A small town on the bluff above the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, founded in 1894 by followers of the economist Henry George as a single-tax colony — a serious utopian experiment in land economics whose corporation still owns much of the land and still leases it. What grew out of it is a walkable downtown of galleries and independent shops under hanging flower baskets, a long municipal pier with a rose garden at its foot, and some of the best sunsets on the Gulf coast.

325 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama, 36532, United States

A public town, open at all times. Shops and galleries generally 10 AM - 5 or 6 PM, with the First Friday Art Walk each month. The municipal pier and bay-front park are free and open daily. Free parking downtown and at the bay.
