Fallingwater
National Historic Landmark — UNESCO World Heritage Site · Mill Run, Pennsylvania
A house Frank Lloyd Wright designed in 1935 and built between 1936 and 1939 for the Pittsburgh department-store family Kaufmann, cantilevered directly over a waterfall on Bear Run in the Laurel Highlands. Edgar Kaufmann jr. gave it to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy in 1963 with its furniture and art intact, and it has been open to the public ever since. In 2019 it was inscribed by UNESCO as part of a serial World Heritage listing of eight Wright buildings, and the American Institute of Architects has repeatedly named it the best all-time work of American architecture.
