Falls Park
Waterfall · Sioux Falls, South Dakota
The waterfalls the city is named for, in the middle of Sioux Falls, where the Big Sioux River drops over Sioux quartzite in a series of ledges - an average of seven thousand four hundred gallons a second falling a hundred feet in total. The pink quartzite is 1.2 billion years old and hard enough that the river has barely cut into it. The ruin on the bank is the Queen Bee Mill, a seven-storey flour mill that failed within three years of opening in 1881.
