Fantastic Caverns

Show Cave · Springfield, Missouri

The only cave in North America toured entirely by riding - a Jeep-drawn tram carries you along the bed of an ancient underground river for about fifty-five minutes, and nobody walks a step. That is not a gimmick added later; the passage is a wide dry river channel and the tram follows it. It was found in 1862 by a farmer's dog and first explored by twelve women from a Springfield gymnastics club, whose names are still on the wall where they signed them.

4872 North Farm Road 125, Springfield, Missouri, 65803, United States

Open daily year round with tours departing continuously through the day - generally from mid-morning to late afternoon, with longer summer hours. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. TOURS RUN ON DEMAND RATHER THAN A FIXED TIMETABLE, so the wait is usually short. The cave is 60 degrees year round.
