Farnsworth Art Museum
Art Museum · Rockland, Maine
A museum of American art in Rockland, endowed by Lucy Farnsworth in 1935 and opened in 1948, holding Homer, Eakins, Sargent, Bellows, Hassam and Rockwell Kent - and above all three generations of Wyeths. It owns the Olson House in Cushing, the farmhouse in Andrew Wyeth's Christina's World, and admission covers both. For a town of seven thousand it is an improbable collection.
16 Museum Street, Rockland, Maine, 04841, United States
Generally open daily in season with reduced days in winter - commonly closed Mondays and Tuesdays out of season. Ticketed, and admission covers the main museum, the Wyeth Center and the Olson House. ⚠ THE OLSON HOUSE IN CUSHING IS FOURTEEN MILES AWAY, opens on a shorter seasonal schedule than the museum, and is the thing most visitors do not realise is included.
