Farup Sommerland is North Jutland's big summer amusement park, opened in 1975 in the pine and heath country between Saltum and the beach resort of Blokhus, roughly 30 km north-west of Aalborg. It began as a modest family park and has grown into one of Denmark's best-known ride parks, with wooden and steel roller coasters, a large area of rides for small children, and a water park that the park describes as one of the largest in Scandinavia - all included in one day ticket. Danish families come for exactly that formula: one price, a full day of coasters and water slides, picnic lawns, and the wide North Sea beaches of Blokhus a few minutes away for the evening. For a first-time visitor it is an easy, very Danish summer day out, best combined with a stay on the Jammerbugt coast. The honest caveat: it is strictly seasonal, open roughly from May to late August or early September and closed the rest of the year, it is a long way from Copenhagen, and on warm July days the water park and the big coasters get very crowded.

Rides and the water park close at different times from the park gates. By car it is roughly 4.5-5 hours from Copenhagen via the Great Belt Bridge and Aalborg, and about 25-35 minutes from Aalborg. By public transport, take the train to Aalborg, then a regional bus towards Blokhus or Saltum; a summer bus or stop near the park may run - confirm routes in Rejseplanen. Buy tickets online ahead for July weekends.
