Ferndale
Old Town · Ferndale, California
A dairy town on the Eel River delta whose entire village is a State Historic Landmark — streets of elaborate Victorians built by butterfat money in the 1880s and 1890s, and locally called Butterfat Palaces without irony. It is the finishing line of the Kinetic Grand Championship, a three-day race of human-powered art machines across sand, mud and water.
