Finger Lakes Wine Country
Wine Region · Geneva, New York
Eleven long narrow lakes gouged by glaciers across central New York, whose depth moderates the climate enough to grow vinifera grapes at a latitude that should not support them. There are roughly 130 wineries here, most of them small and family-run, and the region's reputation rests almost entirely on RIESLING — cool-climate, high-acid, and widely held to be the best made anywhere in the Americas.

The region is open — free to drive through, with no gate. Individual wineries keep their own hours and MANY SMALL PRODUCERS REDUCE TO WEEKENDS OR CLOSE ENTIRELY FROM ROUGHLY JANUARY TO APRIL. The New York State Finger Lakes Welcome Center at Geneva, where this pin sits, is free and keeps its own hours. Harvest and peak season run late September through October. ⚠ NOT VERIFIED FOR THIS FILE — check individual wineries before travelling, especially in winter.
