Flight 93 National Memorial
National Memorial · Stoystown, Pennsylvania
The field in Somerset County where United Airlines Flight 93 came down on 11 September 2001, after the forty passengers and crew forced their way toward the cockpit and the hijackers put the aircraft into the ground rather than reach Washington. The memorial is deliberately quiet and deliberately large: a long black walkway tracing the flight path, a wall of forty white marble panels at the edge of the impact field, and a ninety-three-foot tower of wind chimes near the entrance. Admission is free.
6424 Lincoln Highway, Stoystown, Pennsylvania, 15563, United States
Grounds open daily from sunrise to sunset, free. Visitor Center Complex and the Learning Center generally 9 AM to 5 PM. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The Tower of Voices, near the park entrance, is accessible whenever the grounds are open.
